In the end we pierced the bottom of the columns (which are hollow) with a compass/small screwdriver and inserted kebab sticks into them, allowing about an inch at the end with which to pierce...

This product is over priced for a few bits of plastic that make a dissapointing castle. Ok if you are not sure how to do one but using your imagination makes a better castle altogether. I used a few of the bits and added ideas of my own so I think it was a waste of money.I also thought the instructions could have been made easier for beginers as it will probably be people new to this kind of cake making that buys it.
