The artist, Pierre-Antoine Poiteau (1766-1854) was a french pomologist and gardener who travelled extensively throughout his life, discovering many species of plants and animals. He was a great admirer of the Redoute style and utilised the colour printing techniques he devised. The 'Pomolgie Francaise' was published by Langlois, the master of colour printing who supervised much of Redoute's most celebrated work.
