I had to reduce it to about one third full, only, and even then it was hard work. The trouble is, the rod is long and narrow, so cannot take too much pressure, and could snap. It is quite good for cream, though, but again, no more than half full. I found it good for making big swirls on top of cup cakes. Not sure about royal icing yet.
Even so, for a soft creamy substance, it is good, as long as you bear in mind it is only plastic, so not as strong as a metal one would be. For the price, though, quite a good buy.
